MARCI JOY BERRY
MEET THE ARTIST
Artist's Statement:
My subject matter is usually something that captures my attention, just a moment in time. A glance, an instant when the light hits just right, that is what moves me. So often we run so quickly through the world that we - all of us - fail to notice the gift of God's fleeting beauty. My subjects are my effort to slow the world down for just a second, to allow me to really experience what I am seeing. This can apply to a landscape, a person or an animal. I sincerely hope that I can do them justice.

Marci Joy Berry is a Painter of Contemporary Wildlife and Equine Subjects.
Marci earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Michigan and has been finding ways to interpret and share the beauty of her surroundings ever since. In addition to gallery representation, she participates in local Northern Michigan painting events and exhibitions every summer in support of the local arts communities of Glen Arbor, Leland, Northport and Traverse City.
In recent years, Marci has focused on her studio work, capturing the beauty of wildlife and equine subjects. Horses have been an interest for her all her life, ever since her grandfather introduced her to a newborn colt, and allowed her to name him Lightning.
Marci lives in Maple City, Michigan – in the heart of beautiful Leelanau County. Leelanau is home to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore as well as home to wildlife, lakes, sand dunes and beaches; truly an inspiration for a painter and artist. Even though painting is her focus, Marci also works in Photography, Calligraphy and Graphic Design.
As a child, Marci started drawing animals, particularly horses - and has never stopped. Prior to her senior year at the University of Michigan, Marci went to work for the summer on a ranch in Dubois, Wyoming, where she met her husband. Her love of horses and the beauty of wildlife has been in her blood ever since. Even though she lives in Michigan, Marci regularly visits the west with her husband Jeff, and three children - skiing in the winter, painting in the summer, when ever she can.
Capturing the essence of animals and their personality is certainly her passion.
