Plein Air painting involves painting outside, 

while observing your surroundings. 

Almost all of the examples here have been painted at plein air events, where artists check in on the morning of the event with a blank canvas - and they turn a finished painting back in, framed and ready to hang, by late afternoon. The showing and sale of these paintings takes place the same evening

 in most cases.
